President’s Letter: June 2026

Greetings Everyone!

June is recognized as National Safety Month, led by the National Safety Council
(NSC)—an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness and preventing
injuries both in the workplace and beyond. Since 1996, this initiative has helped
organizations and individuals focus on the leading causes of preventable
incidents and reinforce safe behaviors in all aspects of life. [nsc.org]

As safety professionals and members of the American Society of Safety
Professionals (ASSP), this month provides an opportunity to strengthen our
commitment to protecting our workforce, our communities, and ourselves.

National Safety Month reminds us that safety does not stop at compliance, it
requires continuous attention, engagement, and improvement. The campaign
emphasizes that many injuries are preventable and encourages organizations to
take proactive steps to reduce risk at work, at home, and on the road.

Across the Permian Basin, where operations are dynamic and high-risk, this
focus is especially critical. Taking time to highlight safety topics and engage our
teams helps reinforce a culture where everyone is accountable for safety.

These weekly themes provide a structured way to engage teams and keep safety
top of mind throughout the entire month.

National Safety Month is designed to be actionable. The NSC provides free
resources such as safety talks, articles, and training materials to support
organizations in driving engagement and awareness.

This June, consider:

  • Sharing lessons learned and best practices across your teams
  • Recognizing employees who demonstrate strong safety leadership
  • Hosting a safety stand-down, lunch-and-learn, or awareness campaign
  • Encouraging participation in safety pledges and engagement activities

National Safety Month is not just a campaign—it is a reminder of the role we play
as safety professionals. By leading with purpose, engaging our workforce, and
continually improving our processes, we can reduce risks and prevent incidents
before they occur.

Let’s use this month to recommit to safety excellence, strengthen our safety
culture, and make a lasting impact that extends well beyond June.

Stay safe, stay engaged, and continue to lead by example
